Brit has created a new head of innovation role, reporting to the insurer’s CEO
Insurance technology veteran James Birch has joined Brit as its head of innovation, in a newly created position.
Birch joins from venture capital firm Hambro Perks where he led the establishment of insurtech investment vehicle InsurTech Gateway in 2017.
His appointment at Brit is effective today, reporting to CEO Matthew Wilson.
“As one of our three strategic pillars, innovation is a critical area of focus for us,” said Wilson.
“We are therefore delighted that James joins Brit in the newly created role of head of innovation,” he said.
At Hambro Perks he led fundraising, oversaw deal flow and managed the fund’s portfolio.
During his time at InsurTech Gateway, Birch oversaw the build of five insurtech incubated start-ups and led the seeding of 10 investments.
Before Hambro Perks, he co-founded Pluto, focuses on combining dynamic pricing, digitalised policy management and an automated claims service for buying travel insurance.
Birch has also worked at advisories Accenture and then EY, where he set up its global financial technology team.
Wilson added: “James will bring an entrepreneurial approach and fresh perspectives as we look to explore new opportunities, develop and implement new technologies and evolve our processes to respond to the changing demands of the market and our clients.”
