Re/insurer Fidelis has promoted Simon Crone to be the new chief underwriting officer (CUO) for its Dublin subsidiary.

He joined Fidelis as a senior underwriter in 2019 from AmTrust, where he was the CUO for the US insurer’s mortgage and credit division.

Crone joins Robert Kelly, who is also newly appointed as CEO of its Irish business.

Kelly said: “I am pleased to have Simon join me on the Board and look forward to working together to grow our continental business.”

He joined Fidelis in 2018 having previously worked at PartnerRe in Ireland, where he was chief financial officer.

Richard Brindle, chairman, group CEO and CUO of Fidelis, said: “Both Simon and Rob have proven their business acumen and expertise since joining Fidelis, and I am pleased to confirm their appointments to these roles.

Brindle also thanked Colm Lyons, the company’s departing CEO and CUO in Dublin, who set up the Bermuda re/insurer’s Irish office, previously working at XL Catlin and Allied World.

“Fidelis’ Dublin office provides certainty to our clients and brokers that we will continue to operate in the EEA irrespective of Brexit, and that there will be continuity of service on our agreements,” said Brindle.

“This is an important part of our business strategy, ensuring that we can continue to grow our Continental book, particularly in specialty and bespoke insurance,” he added.
