New AIRMIC chairman makes risk communication his theme for the year

Colin Campbell, incoming AIRMIC chairman, has made “Communicating Risk Management” his theme for the year.

“As risk management becomes ever more topical, more and more people want to know what it means in practice, and it’s often misused and misunderstood as a result,” he said.

Campbell highlighted the recent establishment of Risk Publishing Online as an example of AIRMIC’s role in communicating risk management.

“Risk Publishing Online is aimed mainly at small and medium-sized business. SMEs are in many ways the lifeblood of the economy, and we believe they have much to gain from a more formal appreciation of what risk management is all about,” he continued.

Campbell, who is head of risk management at fashion retailer Arcadia Group, added that he wanted to address fundamental questions such as “What does ERM mean?” and “What does risk meant to my business?”

“I want to engage directly with AIRMIC members while I am chairman,” he said. “I want to go and meet members and see their places of work and view risk management in action.”
