New team to be led by Antares’s Brian Denton

BMS-backed managing general agency Pioneer has launched Pioneer PI to write international and US professional indemnity (PI) business.

The new division will be a Lloyd’s registered consortium and will start writing business on 1 August.

The team will be led by Brain Denton, who will join Pioneer in due course, following his departure from Lloyd’s insurer Antares.

Also joining the new division is underwriter Michael Comfort, who became the first official member of Pioneer PI when he joined the company on 18 July.

Pioneer managing director Darren Doherty said: “Since its launch in April 2011, Pioneer has established itself as one of the largest London-based MGAs in terms of capacity.

“As we continue the expansion of our underwriting platform, I am delighted that we are building what promises to be an extremely successful PI team. The launch of the new division signals our commitment to continuing to grow and develop the business, and I look forward to adding other new product lines in the future.”

Comfort added: “I am extremely pleased to have joined Pioneer during this time of rapid expansion. Helping to establish a brand new platform for the business is an exciting opportunity and I look forward to being a part of an entrepreneurial new team.”
