China insurance rapid growth slows

China Life's revenue from premiums in January was 36.6bn yuan ($5.4bn), according to a filing with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

China's insurance industry has slowed its growth recently. Total premiums for all insurers grew 39 percent in 2008, but year-on-year growth for the month of December alone slowed to 6.9 percent, according to data from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.

Total premiums at China's biggest three life insurers, China Life Insurance Co, the life insurance arm of Ping An Insurance (Group) Co and China Pacific Insurance (Group) Co, grew 11 percent in January from a year earlier to 55.5 billion yuan, according to a report in the Chinese press.
