COO Andrew Appel to step down at year-end

Andrew Appel, chief operating officer of global broker Aon, will leave the company at year-end. The company has no current plans to replace him.

Appel became COO of Aon in April this year, after he relinquished his role as head of reinsurance broker Aon Benfield to co-CEOs Michael Bungert and Dominic Christian.

He was previously CEO of Aon Re Global, and oversaw the merger of the reinsurance broker with Benfield, which Aon acquired in August 2008.

Appel joined Aon in 2005 from consulting firm McKinsey as CEO of Aon Consulting Worldwide. He remained chairman of Aon Consulting until its merger with Hewitt Associates in October.
