Lloyd’s insurance firm and syndicate manager Apollo has named Steve Portman as head of energy, with effect from June 2025, as the firm looks to strengthen its energy portfolio and market position.
Portman (pictured), will be based in London, and will report to Simon Mason, head of marine, energy and transportation.
He brings 24 years of experience across broking and underwriting in the upstream and midstream energy insurance market.
He joins Apollo from MS Amlin, where he was lead underwriter responsible for profitable growth of the upstream energy portfolio and for enhancing the firm’s leadership position and relationships with key clients.
His earlier career included senior broking roles at Thompson Heath & Bond, Howden, Willis, Glencairn and Miller.
Simon Mason said: “We are thrilled to have Steve join the team. He brings a deep technical understanding of the sector—particularly in control of well underwriting—paired with strong market relationships and a strategic approach to portfolio growth. This extensive industry knowledge as well as his leadership skills will enhance our collective capabilities and bring invaluable insight as we continue to grow our energy offering.”
