The London-based platform said the move would introduce a low-volatility portfolio and expand its ability to address complex global risks across new and existing clients.

Mackenzie (pictured) will join in October from Berkley Re, bringing more than two decades of experience across international casualty markets.

Paul Sandi, head of reinsurance at Apollo, said: “Tim’s exceptional reputation and well-established relationships will build on the division’s successful 2025, as we begin underwriting the class from 1st January 2027.

“His appointment underscores our commitment to attracting top-tier talent capable of driving success in emerging opportunities,” Sandi said.

The new class is set to begin underwriting from the 1 January 2027 renewals, marking a further step in Apollo’s expansion across reinsurance lines.

James Slaughter, chief underwriting officer at Apollo, said: “The introduction of international casualty reinsurance reinforces our position as a forward-thinking reinsurer dedicated to supporting diverse client needs.

“This class not only enhances portfolio stability but strengthens our ability to deliver market-leading returns through thoughtful diversification and disciplined execution,” Slaughter added.
