Veteran aviation reinsurance broker David Bell joins from Aon to lead Lockton Re’s global aviation practice
Lockton Re has appointed David Bell as head of aviation, based in London.
He will work with clients and partners worldwide as the broker continues to expand its specialty reinsurance capabilities, Lockton Re said.
Bell is a recognised figure in the global aviation market with extensive experience across treaty and excess-of-loss programmes, according to the broker, including satellite business and major North American placements.
He began his career in 1983 at CT Bowring as a trainee claims broker before moving into airline placements and later reinsurance.
His previous roles include senior aviation positions at Marsh, AIG, Gallagher Re and, most recently, Aon.
Robert Bisset, Lockton Re’s chairman of global retrocession and property specialty, Bermuda and market capital, said Bell’s arrival would strengthen Lockton Re’s growing aviation portfolio.
“We are thrilled to welcome David to Lockton Re,” Bisset said.
“He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and drive to deliver the best solutions for our clients and further strengthens our aviation capabilities.
“David’s collaborative mindset and commitment to service align perfectly with our core values and dynamic culture,” he added. “As we continue to grow, we remain dedicated to hand-selecting talent that fits our focus on clients, markets and colleagues.”
Bell said he was excited to join a business known for its growth momentum and long-term investment in client relationships.
“I’m excited to be part of the Lockton Re growth story where continued investment results in long-term and sustained success for clients and colleagues,” he said.
“The impressive aviation team at Lockton Re have been so welcoming, as has the whole business. This feels like an opportunity to really focus on providing value to clients for both their immediate and long-term needs and goals.”
Keith Harrison, international CEO at Lockton Re, said Bell would play a key role as the firm builds depth across its specialty lines.
“David is a great addition to lead our aviation team as we continue to build strength and depth in all our specialty businesses,” Harrison said.
“The aviation reinsurance market provides both challenges and opportunities for clients and markets alike, and we’re really excited to have someone with David’s drive and experience to help our clients succeed,” he added.
