Carbon has appointed Jeff Bright as underwriting director, a move that marks a key step in its push into the US market.

Bright (pictured), who took up the role on 3 November, brings more than 30 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s property delegated underwriting authority market.

He previously co-founded Adeptive LLP, where he was chief underwriting officer, and before that held senior roles at Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK).

Carbon has grown from £15m to £320m in premium over the past five years and has made no secret of its ambition to expand into the US.

With fresh capital, technology investment and a growing team, the firm said it is now positioned to build a platform in the region.

Jacqui Ferrier, chief executive at Carbon Underwriting, said the US represented a major opportunity for the business.

“Jeff brings exceptional experience and credibility to our ambitions in the region, and his leadership will be instrumental in shaping and launching the new platform,” she said.

Bright said he was excited to help lead the company’s US strategy.

“Joining Carbon to help shape the US platform is a fantastic chance to help build something exceptional,” he said.

“The team’s focus on partnerships, transparency and innovation truly sets it apart.

“Their Graphene technology is significantly transforming how underwriters, brokers and coverholders work together.

“I’m very excited to lead this transformation into the US, supported by a company that empowers its people and challenges convention,” he added.
