New hire from Trans Re strengthens Canopius’ UK reinsurance ambitions as the group looks to expand its treaty reinsurance business
Canopius has appointed Rachel Webber as head of reinsurance, UK, a newly created role aimed at advancing the group’s reinsurance strategy in the London market.
Webber (pictured) will report to Aloïs Rouffiac, UK chief underwriting officer and active underwriter at Canopius.
She joins from Trans Re, where she was a senior vice president and head of non-marine.
Webber brings experience across technical and underwriting disciplines, having led underwriting teams and delivered strategic projects, Canopius said.
Her appointment comes as Canopius continues to grow its reinsurance operations globally, adding to its established presence in Bermuda and Asia-Pacific.
The business has recently expanded its casualty treaty portfolio and entered the aviation treaty market in London.
In her new role, Webber will oversee the evaluation and development of Canopius’ UK reinsurance portfolio.
She will also lead client engagement to strengthen relationships and ensure brokers and cedants have a clear understanding of the company’s reinsurance proposition.
Rouffiac said Webber would play a central role in positioning Canopius among the leading specialty reinsurance underwriters in London.
“We are delighted to welcome Rachel to Canopius,” he said.
“She will develop and focus our strong reinsurance underwriting teams in London while embedding a collaborative and winning culture.
“We have no doubt that she will help to position Canopius Reinsurance as one of the London market’s leading, specialist reinsurance underwriters,” Rouffiac added.
