Industry veteran to support firm’s continued US expansion at the reinsurance broker
Lockton Re has appointed Jim Franson as chairman of its North America operations, as the fast-growing reinsurance broker continues to scale its platform across the region.
Franson (pictured) takes on the newly created role following a more than three-decade career in broking and underwriting.
He was most recently president of Validus Re US, where he built out the firm’s property and casualty treaty business.
He previously served as chief underwriting officer at Arch Re and began his career in broking, holding roles at Marsh and Aon in New York, London and Washington DC.
Nick Durant, chief executive for North America at Lockton Re, said Franson’s appointment reflected the expansion and ambition of the business.
“We are pleased Jim has joined Lockton Re in this newly formed role as North America chairman,” Durant said.
“The creation of his role is a direct result of the incredible acceleration in the scope and size of our team. Jim’s proven leadership, enthusiasm for the business, and strong reputation in the industry make him a natural fit for Lockton Re.”
Franson said the opportunity to join Lockton Re was “an exciting next step” in his career.
“What makes this team so compelling to colleagues and clients is its fresh, forward-looking take on reinsurance broking, consistently creating value for clients,” he said.
“Over the course of my career, I have been fortunate to work with some very talented people, and this new role continues that trend.”
Tim Gardner, global chief executive of Lockton Re, said Franson would play a key role in the broker’s long-term growth strategy.
“His deep experience in the global reinsurance market will further strengthen our ability to deliver unique perspectives and distinct risk transfer solutions tailored to our clients’ business objectives,” Gardner said.
“We are delighted to welcome him to Lockton Re,” Gardner added.
