Lewis to lead specialty MGA HIVE’s marine expansion

HIVE Underwriters has appointed Nick Lewis as marine chief underwriting officer, with effect from July 2026 following the completion of his contractual obligations with his current employer.

Lewis (pictured) will join the independent specialty managing general agent (MGA) from Everest Insurance, where he most recently served as head of marine, international.

He brings experience in building and leading marine portfolios, alongside technical underwriting expertise and long standing broker and carrier relationships across the global market.

The launch of marine represents the next stage in HIVE’s development as a multi line specialty MGA.

It follows the firm’s entry into space insurance at the end of 2025 and builds on its established aviation underwriting platform.

Under Lewis’ leadership, HIVE said it will develop a diversified marine offering focused on specialist and niche segments.

The MGA said the strategy will emphasise underwriting expertise, data driven decision making and close broker alignment to deliver sustainable performance.

Bruce Carman, CEO of HIVE Underwriters, said marine was a natural extension of the firm’s strategy.

“Nick is an outstanding underwriter and leader with a proven ability to outperform in the market,” he added.

“His appointment reflects our strategy of backing exceptional talent and giving them the platform, autonomy and support to build high quality, sustainable portfolios,” Carman said.

Lewis said the class remains one of the most technically demanding areas of the specialty market.

“Marine remains one of the most technically demanding classes in the specialty market, and that’s exactly where the opportunity lies,” Lewis said.

“HIVE offers the freedom to build a Marine proposition the right way, with a clear appetite, aligned capacity and the tools to support intelligent risk selection,” he continued.

“My focus is on assembling a specialist team that understands where and how Marine portfolios truly outperform, and on building a business that delivers reliable results for brokers and carriers over the long term,” Lewis added.
