CUO Nick Line swaps Markel International for CFC as the company suggests growth ambitions
CFC has appointed Nick Line as chief underwriting officer (CUO), strengthening its senior leadership team as the specialist insurer pursues further growth.

Line joins the business from Markel International, where he served as CUO.
He brings experience managing multi-billion-pound portfolios, alongside a strong actuarial background and international underwriting leadership credentials.
CFC said Line’s appointment would support its ambition to scale underwriting performance across its global platform.
Louise O’Shea, group CEO of CFC, said the hire underlined the firm’s long-term strategy.
“We are delighted to welcome Nick at such an exciting time in CFC’s growth story,” O’Shea said.
“His technical acumen, global perspective and inclusive leadership style make him the ideal person to lead our underwriting teams into the next chapter.”
Line said he was joining the business at a pivotal moment.
“I am pleased to be joining CFC at such an exciting time for the business,” he said.
“I look forward to working with CFC’s talented underwriting teams to build on this momentum and help drive the business towards its ambitious goals.”
He succeeds Matt Taylor, who has served as interim CUO since February 2025.
