Former Markel CUO set to take on senior role at cyber-focused insurer in 2026
CFC has appointed Nick Line as its new chief underwriting officer (CUO), bringing in the long-serving Markel executive to lead underwriting activities across the group.
Line (pictured) will join in 2026, after some 28 years working at Markel, where he has served as CUO since 2018.
“Nick combines deep technical knowledge with global leadership experience which will be invaluable as we continue to deliver the highest level of service and expertise to our clients across the world,” said CFC group CEO Louise O’Shea.
“Markel’s people-powered approach and exceptional customer service align closely with our own culture. This—together with Nick’s commitment to empowering those around him through inclusive leadership—make him a natural fit for CFC.”
Line began his insurance career in 1997 and has held both CUO and chief actuary positions.
During his time at Markel, he oversaw the expansion of the company’s underwriting capabilities and supported its growth into new territories and product lines, contributing to its reputation for customer service in international markets.
He currently chairs the Inclusion@Lloyd’s committee and is a member of the Lloyd’s Market Association’s CUO Committee.
Matt Taylor, CFC’s chief performance officer, has held the CUO role on an interim basis since February 2025.
Markel has worked closely with CFC as a capacity provider across several classes, including transaction liability and terrorism, since 2019.
“In 28 wonderful years at Markel, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside some of the brightest minds and friendliest people in the industry,” said Line.
“However, at this point in my career, I’m excited to begin a new chapter in which I can enhance my learning, develop new skills and be challenged in different ways.”
He added: “It had to be an exceptional opportunity for me to make a move, and that’s why I’m so excited to be joining the CFC team. I have always admired businesses that embody innovation, agility and a ‘can-do’ ethos, and CFC is a standout example. I look forward to working with Louise and the broader team to deliver their vision for continued future success.”
