He will be based in the reinsurance broker’s New York office.

Nick Durant, CEO for North America at Lockton Re, said McCann’s technical background and leadership would strengthen the firm’s casualty capabilities.

“This appointment underscores our unwavering commitment to providing our clients with unparalleled expertise in this complex sector,” he said.

“Mike’s technical understanding will be pivotal in navigating the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“Crucially, he also embodies the collaborative and client-centric culture that is the foundation of our success,” Durant said.

McCann joins from Renaissance Re, where he was senior vice president, underwriting, overseeing global casualty and professional liability relationships.

He previously held senior roles at Validus Re America, Everest Reinsurance Companies and Aon Benfield.

McCann said Lockton Re’s independence and entrepreneurial culture were key attractions.

“What immediately resonates with me about Lockton Re is the powerful combination of its entrepreneurial spirit and unique independence,” McCann said.

“This translates into an ability to support clients with effective decision-making, genuine objectivity and tailored solutions unburdened by institutional obstacles.”

Jeff Fleming, managing partner and head of P&C, portfolio solutions and facultative at Lockton Re North America, said McCann would play a central role in enhancing the firm’s casualty proposition.

“His extensive leadership and experience in the casualty market will be instrumental in reinforcing our commitment to deliver innovative analytics, creative solutions and a superior experience for our clients,” Fleming added.
