Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has appointed Ed Louth as head of aviation with immediate effect.

Louth (pictured) is based in London and reports to Meghan Walker, divisional director, marine and aviation.

He most recently served as head of broking, global aviation and space at Willis.

He succeeds Miles Taffs, who has served as interim head of aviation since September 2025.

Taffs will return to his previous role as senior underwriting specialist, aviation, and remain with LSM to support the transition while continuing to manage key underwriting and market relationships until his retirement on 1 October.

Louth brings 26 years of London market experience to LSM

As head of aviation, Louth will take overall responsibility for underwriting strategy and portfolio performance.

Meghan Walker, divisional director, marine and aviation at LSM, said the appointment reflects the firm’s focus on leadership and underwriting standards.

“Ed is an exceptionally talented and highly respected leader in aviation, and I am delighted to welcome him to Liberty,” Walker said.

“With experience across both broking and underwriting, his insatiable curiosity, strength of conviction and rigorous standards of excellence strongly align with our values,” she continued.

“I look forward to working with Ed as he puts his mark on the portfolio,” Walker added.
