Nexus Underwriting has named Eamonn Long as chief underwriting officer for its Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) business, as the firm looks to build out its offering in structured re/insurance solutions.

Long joins from SCOR, where he was head of London market solutions within its alternative solutions unit.

He will now support the growth of Nexus’s ART portfolio, which was launched in December 2024 under the leadership of Christof Bentele, president of Nexus Specialty Casualty.

The appointment reflects Nexus’s ambition to expand its ART capabilities, the company said, across property, liability, and multi-line solutions, offering clients more capital-efficient options beyond traditional structures.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Eamonn to the business, and proud to see that Nexus was able to attract leading talent in this sector,” said Bentele.

“While Nexus was able to respond to most structures that we were asked to deliver to customers, Eamonn will elevate Nexus’ capabilities to the next level. We aim to create maximum capital efficiency for customers that goes far beyond the conventional insurance structures.

“I am confident that Nexus will add even greater value and insight with Eamonn as our chief underwriting officer going forward.”

Long brings nearly two decades of experience across financial services and insurance. Prior to his time at SCOR, he spent seven years at Allianz, including as managing director for its ART business, working in both London and New York.

He began his career in derivatives trading at Barclays and Nomura and is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries with a PhD in mathematics.

“I’m excited to join Nexus at such a dynamic time in its ART growth journey,” said Long.

“The ART team has already demonstrated impressive momentum in delivering innovative, customer-focused solutions, and I look forward to building on that foundation of innovation and responsiveness.

“With a strong network of capacity partners and a forward-thinking leadership team, Nexus is uniquely positioned to offer sophisticated, bespoke risk transfer solutions that address some of the most complex challenges faced by our customers. I’m proud to be part of that mission.”
