Reinsurer QBE Re has created a new regional leadership role for the Middle East and North Africa as the reinsurer looks to expand its presence in the market
QBE Re has appointed Montassar Cherrak as regional head of Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
Cherrak (pictured) joins from SCOR, where he served as senior underwriter and client relationship manager for the Africa & Middle East region.
He brings almost 30 years of experience in the financial sector and has worked in reinsurance since 2005.
The newly created role will see Cherrak lead QBE Re’s underwriting strategy across the Middle East and North Africa.
The reinsurer suggested it sought to further expand its regional presence through local expertise.
Based in Dubai, Cherrak will report to Houcine Zouaoui, head of Middle East & Africa for QBE Re.
Abdallah Balbeisi, director of Europe growth markets at QBE Re, said: “We’re excited to welcome Montassar to QBE Re.
“His strong underwriting track record, including leading major programmes in the Saudi Arabian and Algerian reinsurance markets, makes him an excellent fit for this new role,” he added.
