Internal promotion for Nick Hankin follows Chris Killourhy’s move to group CFO
QBE has named Nick Hankin as managing director of QBE Re, the carrier’s reinsurance arm, effective 1 January.

He currently serves as chief underwriting officer (CUO) for QBE International.
He held that role since March 2021 after joining QBE’s European operations as its deputy CUO in 2020.
His appointment follows Chris Killourhy’s move earlier this year to group chief financial officer.
Hankin (pictured) has worked across six major global insurance groups, including RSA, AXA, Zurich, AIG and Aviva.
His career spans underwriting leadership, P&L management, risk, governance and strategy, with more than 30 years of underwriting experience.
He holds an MBA from Cass Business School and chairs the ABI commercial committee.
QBE Re operates from hubs including Bermuda, Bogotá, Brussels, Dubai, Dublin, London, New York and Singapore.
It has additional presence in Japan, Argentina and the United States.
Jason Harris, QBE International CEO, said the promotion reflected the strength of QBE’s internal talent.
He said: “Nick combines technical excellence with strategic vision and proven execution capability.
“QBE Re plays an increasingly important role for the business and I’m confident Nick and the QBE Re team will continue to deliver for our cedants and partners through engagement and the strength of our global franchise,” Harris added.
Hankin will remain CUO for QBE International as he transitions into the new role.
QBE said recruitment for the CUO position is ongoing.
