Peter Welton has been appointed head of specialty at The Fidelis Partnership (TFP).

He joins from AXA XL, where he was chief underwriting officer for marine, energy and aerospace across the UK and Lloyd’s markets.

Welton (pictured) previously served as UK head of downstream energy and power generation at XL Catlin.

He brings more than 20 years of experience in the specialty insurance markets.

He will report to director of underwriting John-Paul O’Hare at TFP, which is the Fidelis’ capacity-backed managing general agency (MGA) arm of the London market re/insurance group.

He will support the continued expansion of TFP’s specialty portfolio, with a focus on aviation, space and energy re/insurance, including renewables.

O’Hare said: “We’re delighted to welcome Peter aboard as we continue to build out our market-leading specialty book.”

“At a time of increasing risk complexity and volatility, the need for nimble, innovative and high-conviction underwriting has never been more important.”

“Peter’s impressive track record, his industry reputation and deep sector specialist expertise will further enhance TFP’s underwriting leadership as we build upon our 40-year heritage of underwriting outperformance.”

Welton said: “It’s a pleasure to be joining the team at TFP, whose reputation for pioneering leadership and creative underwriting showcase the speciality insurance market at its entrepreneurial best.”

“As the business continues to set new standards for underwriting innovation and to grow its proposition across specialty lines, this is a hugely exciting time to be stepping aboard.”
