Former Gallagher Re APAC chairman Richard Jones will join Willis Re in October to establish its Singapore platform and drive strategy across Asia

Willis Re has appointed Richard Jones to lead its Asia operations, as the reinsurance broker builds out its presence in Singapore.

Jones (pictured) will join in October 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, and will be based in Singapore.

He will lead the establishment of Willis Re’s operations in the market and take responsibility for delivering the firm’s strategic objectives across Asia.

The move marks a significant step in Willis Re’s regional expansion, with the firm positioning Singapore as a hub for its Asia growth ambitions.

Jones brings nearly four decades of experience in international reinsurance broking, with a career heavily focused on the Asia market.

He joins from Gallagher Re, where he most recently served as chairman of APAC.

Before that, he was CEO of Asia reinsurance solutions at Aon.

He also spent more than 30 years at Guy Carpenter, including roles as CEO, Singapore, and chairman of Asia Pacific.

Across those positions, he has built expertise in structuring complex risk solutions, developing long-term client relationships and shaping regional strategy.

Lucy Clarke, board member at Willis Re, stressed that the appointment is central to the firm’s plans in Asia.

“His regional knowledge and proven track record in shaping and executing strategy will be critical as we build our market presence.

Jones emphasised the opportunity to join at this stage of the buildout was a key attraction.
