Gilles Bonvarlet will be retiring from the board following eight years of service

MS Amlin Underwriting Limited (MS Amlin Underwriting) has appointed Julie Hopes to its board as an independent non-executive director.

The new hire will also take over as chair of the risk and solvency committee later this year, if regulatory approvals are met - she will assume the role from Gilles Bonvarlet.

Bonvarlet will be retiring from the MS Amlin Underwriting board after more than eight years of service as a director.

Hopes, who brings more than 30 years of financial services experience to the team, also holds current board positions at Saga and West Bromwich Building Society.

Prior to joining MS Amlin Underwriting, Hopes was chair on the risk committee at Co-op Insurance, as well as the managing director for insurance at Tesco Bank and international operations director at RSA.

Johan Slabbert, chief executive of MS Amlin Underwriting, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Julie as a notified independent non-executive director (iNED).

“Julie is an accomplished industry leader and her appointment is testament to our continued ability to attract senior talent to the business.

“Her proven leadership track record across blue chip financial services firms and her deep understanding of the regulatory landscape will undoubtedly further strengthen the MS Amlin Underwriting board as we continue to progress with our strategic objectives.”
