Storm could make landfall in eastern Caribbean tomorrow

Tropical storm Chantal is heading steadily towards the Bahamas and could arrive by Friday, according to the US National Hurricane Center.

However, forecasters think that the storm could have weakened and become a tropical depression by the time it reaches the Bahamas.

The centre of the storm was about 249km east of Barbados early this morning, the centre said. The storm has maximum winds of 80km/h.

The storm is expected to make landfall on eastern Caribbean islands tomorrow.
