Catastrophe analytics expert to oversee the broker’s real-time insights for insurers and commercial risk clients.
Aon has named Dan Hartung as global head of event response for its Risk Capital division, as the firm looks to strengthen its catastrophe analytics capabilities and provide faster insights to insurance and commercial clients.
Hartung (pictured), a former meteorologist with nearly 15 years of experience in catastrophe analytics, will lead Aon’s global event response team.
He is tasked with enhancing the delivery of actionable intelligence before, during and after major natural disasters, including estimating industry exposures and financial impacts across global markets.
He will also oversee the integration of Aon’s proprietary tools, such as its automated response solutions, industry exposure databases and insured loss data from the firm’s Catastrophe Insight team.
“Natural catastrophe events are inherently complex, resulting in substantial economic losses, including $125 billion already in 2025,” said Paul Shedden, head of Risk Capital analytics at Aon.
“Accurately assessing their impact requires synthesising data from a wide range of sources. By enhancing our event response capabilities, we’re uniting Aon’s expertise to provide clients with a single, integrated view of risk.
“We’re pleased to have Dan lead this critical function, helping clients navigate volatility, strengthen resilience and make more informed decisions.”
Hartung’s expanded remit will also include the delivery of real-time insights to Aon’s commercial risk clients, supporting a more proactive, data-driven approach to risk management. He will remain based in Baltimore.
“As property insurers face increasing pressure to manage catastrophe risk with speed and precision, Aon is committed to delivering timely, data-driven insights that support better decisions—from claims response and reinsurance recovery to internal reporting,” said Tracy Hatlestad, global head of property reinsurance at Aon.
“Dan’s deep expertise in catastrophe analytics and his proven ability to lead through complexity make him the ideal person to guide this effort. His leadership will be instrumental in expanding the reach and impact of our event response capabilities across the insurance sector and beyond.”
Hartung will also contribute to the launch of a new event analytics platform later this year, designed to help clients visualise complex catastrophe events, access risk insights by portfolio or location, and receive tailored alerts.
