New Danish operation strengthens Howden Re’s Nordic and Baltic platform, with Jens Ellborg joining as managing director from 1 November

Howden Re has opened an office in Copenhagen and appointed Jens Ellborg (pictured) as managing director as it continues to expand its Nordic and Baltic operations.

Ellborg will join on 1 November 2026 and lead the development of the reinsurance broker’s Danish offering.

He brings more than 40 years of experience in the Nordic reinsurance market and will work with colleagues across the region and Howden Denmark.

The Copenhagen office joins Howden Re’s existing Nordic platform, which is co-led by Sophia Dunér (pictured bottom) and Camilla Langensjö (pictured below Ellborg) from Stockholm.

The broking firm’s Nordic platform now comprises more than 20 people across broking, analytics, catastrophe modelling and client service.

Ellborg will support insurers, MGAs and other market participants across reinsurance, analytics and access to traditional, structured and alternative capital.

Tobias Andersson, head of Continental Europe at Howden Re International, said: “A permanent office and leadership on the ground in Denmark adds an important market to that platform and gives us a stronger base from which to serve clients across the Nordic and Baltic region.

“Jens brings the relationships, judgement and experience to build on our existing Danish business and help shape our wider European offer.”

The move forms part of Howden Re’s broader international expansion, which has also included new operations in Portugal and Ireland and investment in alternative solutions and parametric capabilities.

Dunér said: “Our local offices bring us closer to clients and markets, connecting them with the best of Howden Re globally.

“Jens’ experience and relationships will help us build on the strong offering already available to Danish clients.”
