Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has appointed three risk engineers to strengthen its energy, power and construction capabilities across the UK and Middle East and North Africa.

Richard Mundy (pictured middle) has joined LSM as principal risk engineer for energy, based in London.

He brings more than 19 years of industry and insurance experience and will manage an expanding global energy client portfolio.

His role will focus on complex upstream, downstream and construction energy risks, as well as supporting portfolio growth across the UK and Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Mundy reports to Paddy Lisulo, UK and MENA risk engineering manager at LSM.

Taz Chowdhury (pictured top) has been appointed risk engineer for power and will also be based in London.

He will support the insurer’s power business across the UK and MENA, carrying out risk appraisals and engineering surveys and providing technical input on claims.

Chowdhury has close to seven years of engineering experience across the UK, MENA, Asia-Pacific and Europe; he also reports to Lisulo.

Sam McLachlan (pictured bottom) has joined as risk engineer for construction, based in Dubai.

He will provide technical risk engineering support to LSM’s MENA construction team and assist with the underwriting of its regional construction portfolio.

McLachlan is a chartered civil engineer with more than 12 years of insurance and industry experience.

His background includes work across the infrastructure, energy, transport, nuclear and commercial sectors, including the delivery of complex international construction projects.

He reports to Sean Pearson, underwriting manager and construction regional product leader at Liberty Specialty Markets.

Lisulo said: “We are thrilled to welcome Richard, Taz and Sam to our team.

“Their strategic appointments reflect our unwavering commitment to delivering top-tier technical risk engineering expertise.

“By bringing in deep, hands-on industry experience, we not only power our underwriting teams but also elevate the collaborative risk-partnership model we offer our clients.

“As the energy, power and construction sectors navigate rapid transitions and increasingly complex risk environments, their technical insights will be vital in helping our clients build resilience and manage risk effectively,” Lisulo added.
