In addition to the two senior management appointments, José Manuel Inchausti will become chairman of the reinsurance arm of the Madrid-based insurer.
MAPFRE RE has reshaped its senior leadership team as part of what it called a wider strategic effort to support growth, improve operational efficiency, and deepen relationships across the group.
Fernando Utrilla Agüero has been appointed deputy chief financial officer, stepping up from his current role as assistant general manager of MAPFRE Group Business.
José López González, currently underwriting manager for MAPFRE Group retrocessions, will succeed Utrilla in that role and join the company’s management committee.
Both executives will report to Miguel Rosa (pictured), chief executive of MAPFRE RE. The appointments take effect from 1 July, the firm said.
In addition to the two management appointments, José Manuel Inchausti will join MAPFRE RE’s board of directors on 6 September and will become chairman.
He succeeds Esteban Tejera, who is stepping down upon reaching MAPFRE’s statutory age limit for board members.
The reinsurance arm of the Spanish insurance group said the changes are the latest in a series of adjustments to its executive structure that began in February.
The changes are intended to reinforce the firm’s business development capabilities and support commercial and operational priorities.
MAPFRE RE said the moves form part of a long-term strategy “to consolidate its growth”, with this latest phase focused on “strengthening commercial relationships and optimising operational efficiency”.
Utrilla joined MAPFRE RE in 1994 and has held a number of senior roles.
López has been with the reinsurer since 2008 and has worked in various strategic roles within the retrocession business.
