Nancy Bewlay joins US insurer AIG from AXA and will report to AIG’s president and CEO Eric Andersen

AIG has appointed Nancy Bewlay (pictured) as executive vice president and global chief underwriting officer, effective 8 September 2026.

Bewlay will report to Eric Andersen, president and CEO of AIG.

She will join the company’s executive leadership team and will be based in New York.

In the role, Bewlay will be responsible for AIG’s underwriting strategy.

Her remit will include advancing underwriting management best practices and overseeing the insurer’s global underwriting organisation.

AIG said the role will focus on underwriting excellence and discipline within the company’s defined risk appetite.

Bewlay has more than 30 years’ industry experience.

She joins AIG from AXA Group, where she served as group chief underwriting and pricing officer since 2023.

She was also a member of AXA’s group management committee.

At AXA, Bewlay built the group underwriting office and led technical underwriting, pricing, claims and reinsurance strategy across the group’s global entities.

Before joining AXA, she held senior leadership roles at Swiss Re, C.V. Starr and General Star Management Company.

She began her career as a casualty underwriter.
