Mosaic Insurance has launched a Bermuda-based excess casualty business, expanding its underwriting platform into a line increasingly shaped by rising loss severity and volatility in the North American market.

The new unit becomes Mosaic’s eighth global product line and will be led by April Andruczyk (pictured), who joins as head of Bermuda, excess casualty.

Mosaic Insurance said the facility has begun underwriting immediately and will support large corporate and multinational clients facing sustained pressure from social inflation, litigation finance and nuclear verdict trends.

The business will deploy capacity of up to $10m per risk through Mosaic’s Bermuda platform, which forms part of the group’s global agency network and leverages Mosaic Syndicate 1609, supported by syndicated partners.

Excess casualty joins Mosaic’s existing underwriting lines in cyber, environmental liability, transactional liability, political risk, political violence, financial institutions and professional liability.

Target sectors for excess casualty include transportation, consumer goods, industrial manufacturing, utilities, construction, energy, hospitality, real estate and life sciences.

The underwriting team includes Bermuda-based specialists Andrew Watson and Chris Abraham, junior underwriter Skyler Powell and UK-based consultant Mike Warwicker, all with long-standing experience in excess casualty.

Mark Wheeler, co-CEO of Mosaic, said the timing of the launch reflected both market need and the availability of specialist talent.

“This strategic expansion comes at a time when the excess casualty market faces ongoing challenges, and the need for reliable capacity remains elevated,” he said.

“Our approach has been carefully considered and, like all our lines, leverages the most outstanding talent—this time, in complex excess casualty. We have strong aspirations for the product to become a significant line of business for us.”

Andruczyk brings close to 30 years of underwriting and leadership experience.

Most recently, she served as vice president of general casualty at Allied World Assurance Company, where she was responsible for underwriting strategy, portfolio management and broker relationships.

Prior to that, she spent 18 years at ACE Bermuda, now part of Chubb, managing its excess liability division after beginning her career at legacy Chubb in New York.

Toby Smith, Americas CEO at Mosaic, said Andruczyk’s appointment would be central to the success of the new unit.

“April is a highly respected market leader with extensive technical knowledge and enduring broker and client relationships,” he said.

“There are exciting opportunities ahead, and we look forward to delivering solutions that meet the evolving needs of this dynamic market.”

Warwicker said Bermuda continued to play a critical role in global excess casualty placement.

“Bermuda remains a durable, strategically important platform for excess casualty,” he said.

“This market is supported by a long-term track record, capital efficiency, and growing global relevance.”
