Laurent Rousseau, ex CEO of top five reinsurer SCOR, has joined reinsurance broking giant Guy Carpenter in a newly created role as CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Global Capital Solutions.

Rousseau’s appointment to Guy Carpenter, part of the Marsh McLennan group, will be effective from September 4 2023.

Rousseau will be located in London and will report to Dean Klisura, Guy Carpenter’s president and CEO. He will also join the Guy Carpenter executive committee, the broker said.

“We are excited to have Laurent join our team. He is a seasoned professional and is widely recognized for his (re)insurance expertise,” Klisura said.

Rousseau will have executive oversight of Guy Carpenter’s businesses across EMEA and India, as well as its GC Securities, Global Risk Solutions and structured risk activities, focused on alternative reinsurance business, such as placing catastrophe bonds and insurance linked securities (ILS).

He is also tasked with collaborating with Marsh McLennan’s other businesses – Marsh, Mercer and Oliver Wyman – to solve for clients’ interconnected risk, strategy and people challenges.

Before Guy Carpenter, Rousseau was CEO of SCOR, where he enjoyed a 13-year career.

Other leadership roles Rousseau held at SCOR include deputy-CEO of global property and casualty (P&C), overseeing specialty insurance, chief underwriting officer for EMEA P&C reinsurance and head of P&C strategy and business development.

Before joining SCOR, Rousseau was in JP Morgan’s mergers and acquisitions group in London from 2005 to 2010, focused on financial institutions deals.

“Laurent’s impressive leadership experience and strong track record in driving growth will be a great asset as we continue to help our clients meet their unique needs and execute our growth strategy,” Klisura added.
